The mk4 dvd drive for the e39, is the same as the one for the e46, mini and x5, the map disc should be a HIGH version.

The map disc must be a HIGH, not professional.

This could be why the disc was ejected, the drive only ejects a disc when it can not read it.

Also, there are two types of drive, Colour and Mono.

To test the drive put the cd map disc (from the mk3, yes, it does work) and see if the map appears on the display.

If you get nothing then:

The drive is duff.
The drive could be a Mono.

Do you know if the drive has a current firmware version on it? if not download v28, and try.
