E46 Sat Nav - 3D Maps - are they possible ?

Hi,

I have a 2002 330ci sport convertible (uk) and current run version 3-1/63 of the Sat Nav software.

This version is the very basic birds eye view of the map and I was wondering if there is a way to upgrade the software & download latest map so that I can use the 3D map versions like in the new BMW's?

I believe that I only have the CD version, not the DVD so don't know if this makes a difference?

Thanks
Mark

You need to upgrade to a DVD navigator (MK4) to get the perspective mode on the maps.

Presumably if VDO/Siemens write the required code for the 3D view, then I suppose anything is possible, but I don't believe there is sufficient processing power in the Mk3 Navicomp - compare the speed of map writes between the Mk3 and Mk4 and the Mk4 has a much faster refresh rate.

I don't think there has been a Mk3 firmware update for quite a while as the Mk3 is probably considered 'end of life'. The Mk4 will go the same way in the next couple of years - just hope the bugs in V28 are fixed before then!
