If the nav voice is just reducing the volume, and goes "on top" of the radio/music when it kicks in, it's a BM54. If the voice just cuts the radio/music completely, it's a BM24.
But there are several versions of the BM54. How to distinguish them without disconnecting the module, that I don't know.... Regards TommyL |

Yes, using NavCoder v2.0 you can read the part number, version, coding index, and manufacturere code all over the ibus

Thnx,so if the nav voice come on top of the radio/cd sound (lower volume when nav speakers) its def. a BM54 ? Will that also mean its a new GEN BM54 (flat connection pins) its a E39 2001

It means it is a BM54, thats right. But it could be any version BM54.
Don't know when the new generation came out....I have a 01/2002 M3, and I think I have the old one. But I'm not 100% certain though. Regards TommyL |

And i though i can connect a NEW GEN onto a old gen cable using adapter from bmw (OLD GEN radio on NEW GEN isnt possible i thought?) i am i right? |

hold the (m) button to get into the secret menu. then scroll through it and around the middle, it will show the module model
