Well I hope they have sorted out the 'villages/suburbs' issue as promised by BMW UK.

I hope MORE THAN ANYTHING that they support a global search feature by name. For instance, you are looking for a video store and know the name. Instead of trying to figure which category you should be searching in you just do a global search for the nearest "blockbuster". How difficult would that LACKING feature be? It would make the entire system much more usable.

I totally agree!

I've completely given up using the POI search feature of my MINI's nav system because of this very reason. The nav system works great if you have a street addrsss, but it's completely worthless when searching for POIs. It's darn near imposible to figure out what category/subcategory the place you are looking for is in. Oy!

It's almost unreal with current map database design. All POI are sorted by category, each category sorted by alphabet. But it's possible to change one of existing categories (Airport for example) and rebuild map database so all POI will have only one type.

PDC screen

I hope BMW will develop also the PDC feature in MK4 models. It would be great to see such a screen in an X5 or E39 when reversing.

That woudl be an incredible feature. If the map database could be rebuilt to allow that feature it would make the system so much better

This limitation is the same in the newer iDrive professional versions as well. But the new Mar 07 e60 LCI 5 series will get an update that will allow POI search facility. So I don't see why we can't get it.
