BMW said the current disks (2007) do not have the Lane Cove tunnel, but the next version, due in Feb / Mar 2008, will include the tunnel.

Hi Radrat

Tell me about the lane cove tunnel map not on there, I hate coming out of the SHT from the east and it tells you to keep left thinking the old road. Then when you turn left down Falcon street it tell you to do a U turn LOL. It cracks me.

Bourdo

PW the brake lining light has just popped up on the dash GRRRRR 4 disc and pads all round

Why fit new discs? You just need new pads surely.

Hi,

I purchased V13 for my X5 and am very happy with it. It has a few new features like when you enter your destination it will automatically give the the distance that needs to be travelled and your arrival time and also a countdown and adjustment whilst travelling. It is similar to previous versions though.

Hi KiwiJochen

At Syd BMW they always change the pads and disc at the same time. In parts alone its costing $1250. The pads have eaten into the disc, the boys say always replace the discs with pads. The car has only done 28k too From an estimate on the phone 2k. Dont forget there hr rate is $165
I knew this was going to happen anyway, it happens on all german cars the brakes cost money when they wear.

Cheers

My 3Litre Diesel 6 Speed has 58000km. Checked the brake pads last week, when I had new tyres fitted, and they are about half worn with virtually no wear lip on the discs. How the devil can you wear out a set of pads and discs at 28000? If it is an automatic, do you drive using two feet? Sounds like you should get a second opinion before parting with your hard earnt cash. I would.
Regards Colin.

Hi fatboyoz

We drive down a 500 meter steep hill when we go home about 2-4 times a day. Your brakes are always on plus we live in the eastern suburbs and its all stop starting. The car hardly sees the HWY's. & must not forget the wife drives it 90% of the time and is a lead foot!

Cheers

Wow they are ripping you off Bourdo! There is no way you could justify changing the discs every time you change the pads! If you're out of warranty I highly suggest going to a BMW specialist independent service centre or at least try a different Dealership.
The discs should last over several pad changes...heck even if you drove like a racing driver they should still last at least a couple of pad changes.

Bourdo,
Why don't you buy yourself a cheap brake disc micrometer and measure the thickness of your discs? The minimum disc thickness should be cast into the disc on the circumference of the disc.
