First of all Brake pads and Disc are not covered under warranty. (Wearing item) I asked around to euro boys and BMW specalist and they all say when you do brakes on late model BMW's always replace pads with BMW disc. Never machine BMW disc there metal is too soft and they will not be the same. I had that same answer from a number of mechinics. They all said not to use after market disc too. 28k for brake pads I know, my wife must be hammering the brakes hard. That 28k also is all city driving too. around the eastern suburbs its all hills and 10 000 taffic lights. So what do you do? Pay the cash! Nick Bourdo

They are robbing you blind.
Had the front pads only replaced at 95000km by Kloster BMW in Newcastle. Labour was $75. Pads and Sensors $200. Changing discs with pads is ridiculous and they are trying to rip people off. Go to another Dealer! Luke |

I'm interested in this thread - both subjects. My 03 4.4 is still running v6 nav DVD and I'm interested in updating, but was told when i spoke to VDO that the software needs to be updated for V13. I'm waiting for the Eastern Fwy construction to be finished and mapped here in Melb before buying a new disc. Incidently i was quoted $300ish by VDO through a reseller. Question: how do I determine what version hardware/software I currently have? And can it be updated to 3D?
I need new front discs and pads at 50k, and I've been ringing around for rotor prices. so far I have DBA slotted rotors at $184 a side (part # 813 SL & SR) or OEM rotors from BMW dealer at $223.50 a side. Pads i haven't priced yet. I'm comfortable in replacing these myself - i've done it several times on different cars, so I'll save me some of the $1k quoted. I also was told don't use non BMW rotors but wonder if it's just a sales ploy? DBA slotted rotors showed a HUGE improvement over std one in the past - both with grip and longevity. David |

Latest versions are 3-1/63 for a Mk3 nav, and 4-1/91 for a Mk4 If you have an earlier version an upgrade is worthwhile. Only the Mk4 can do 3D display. |
