2005- 2 High Map Display Icons

I have just loaded sat nav version 2005-2. High. When I am driving along I keep seeing a black dot surrounded by a black circle on certain roads while viewing the map. Can anyone tell me what they mean?

I think they are "town centers" but they appear to be a bit on the random side.

If you use the nav to navigate to an area that you don't have the full address too (part addresses loaded into nav destination) it will lead you the the bulls eye, as being the closest to your destination.

Some one will correct me if im wrong.

Thanks for that. There are at least 3 icons that appear on a B class road when travelling from work to home, a distance of 5 miles. I have slowed down to see what might be there but there is nothing! Its very baffling. Thanks again.
