Nav DVD works in X5 but not in Z4?

I tried to use my 2006.1 Nav DVD (which is a copy of the Navteq disc) that works fine in my X5 in a Z4 today and no dice. Anyone able to shed any light? Maybe the DVD drive in the Z4 doesn't like the DVD copy and wants the real deal?

My God, man! I haven't smoked weed in YEARS!

I will see if I can't find out once I buy that thing! I will poke around with google and see if I can enlighten myself.

No clue what kind of bus it is and no luck with my google jedi skills. It's an '03 with DVD right on the front of the drive, so that much is fact...no manual with this specific car so I will scour the web for a PDF manual. BTW...X5World kicks the ass of all other car forums, PERIOD! There's just a bunch of crap out there for Z4 forums.

Does the NAV drive look the same as X5's drive? What OS version? Maybe needs upgrade
X5 NAV discs(OS and Navteq) work in MINI Cooper too so I doubt they will use different discs for Z4.

Z4 is iBus, it should be a Mk IV Nav computer. Mk Iv's are prety fussy with their DVD's, it's quite possible that a burned DVD will work on one and not another.

Check and compare the nav system software version - from the main MENU, press Set and then observe the SW version number at the top right hand side of the screen.

It is likely that the two vehicles have different software versions. Some older versions won't read the newer map discs.

The latest SW version for the BMW DVD nav unit is 4-1/91, if the units are not at this version then the upgrade is worthwhile and quite straightforward to do yourself.

You were right, it was running the 4-/12 version of the Nav OS. Works great now, thanks to all!
