Calling it a day

All,

I've been asked to stop producing the completed modd files, as I've breached copyright (by mistake) so I have now decided to call it a day.

I will post up the instructions on how to do the modd (if people want), but will not post any more completed files and I won't be doing any more updates etc.

Thanks to everyone who helped out.

I'll still be around on the forum.

Regards

ccfj1

P.S. If any one want help in creating a modded disc I'd be happy to help you out, but I won't provide any compleated databases.

Calling it a day

Hi CCFJ1. Very sorry to hear the news. This happened to me 9 months ago & I was banned from eBay. I suspect the culprit is the bloke known as BMW_SAT_NAV on eBay ( "Mick" from Hamilton, South Lanarkshire) who claims to sell just the V29.1 OS for £5.00 on eBay. He publishes many disclaimers telling eBay, BMW & Navteq that he is only advertising the OS for sale. When you use the "buy it now" eBay option he will send you a lengthy email detailing PayPal options for buying copies of the various High & Professional 2007-2 DVD map disks....

X5World members need to be aware that he is not a nice guy. When I infringed on his territory on eBay last year he had me banned from eBay, managed to find my address & gave me the date that he & some "friends" would visit me for a "chat" - ie "break my legs"! Needless to say I arranged for some of my ex-military friends to be around & he did not appear.

You have been a fantastic help to this forum & what you are doing does NOT infringe copyright. You are not providing an illegal copy of a Navteq Map DVD. You are simply providing amended "code" to enable anybody to add the current PocketGPSWorld Speed Camera database to the BMW Map DVD. BMW (UK) are incapable of providing this option to their vastly overpriced SatNav systems &, quite frankly, don't care what their customers want!!

You WERE infringing copyright by posting the current PocketGPSWorld camera database onto Megaupload, so just let the forum members pay to download the cameras from PocketGPSWorld.... But please continue to post the amended Eng.LSC files & camera icons for the BMW community. That is not illegal as BMW & Navteq don't have the copyright for something that they never produced - & were incapable of doing.

Top man CCFJ1. Don't let the B*****s grind you down!!!

Mike

Thanks mike, long time no hear

You are correct it was the PocketGPSWorld camera database that got me into trouble, my mistake.

They (PGPSW) were very nice about it, they didn’t get all heavy, I’m thankful for that.

As for still doing the modded eng.lsc (& ger.lsc for the euro stuff) I’ll have to think about it.

The Euro databases that were sent to me were PD and freely available as is the NA (USA) redlight and speed camera databases, so I may still do them, I don’t know yet.

Thanks for the comments, mate.

Regards.

Typical corporate bully-boys!

If PocketGPSWorld are that bothered, then why don't they pay you a small retainer to work the BMW Nav patches to use their camera database, and then they could offer the files off PocketGPSWorld for the fee? Seems very narrow-minded to me.

I agree with Winkle, can't you just post the info on how to get the camera files but still offer the patched lsc etc? Though I have found part of the issue is getting the camera database converted correctly.

Well, there may be a problem with using the converters for commercial use, I did not write, or own the copyright for either the pioconvertor or the asc2mk4 converter files, although I can use them for my own use (non commercial), so this could be a minefield.

Plus I didn't do the zips for reward or gain, it was just the challenge and helping others out that appealed to me.

However, I'd be more than happy to convert the files for PGPSW, free of charge, (assuming it would be OK with the converter writers), but that would be up to PGPSW, its their data.

I may still do this but, I don't know yet, I suppose I could do most of it and point people to the PGPSW web site for the files and then do a "how too" sheet.

Indeed, this was the reason that I produced a already converted zip, and my unintentional fopar.

The .LSC file has copyright to Siemens, so I would suggest that this file is not distributed also, maybe best to just provide a patch bundle, e.g. show the amended lines and where to place them.

The .htm files are additional and even the originals do not have a copyright, the picture files are ok too, so long as they do not have the BMW logo.

Odia.

That sounds about right Odia, I wasn't sure, but thats cleared it up. So maybe a patch is the best option.
