SatNav fails to operate when cabin temp is below 5c
Last winter (fall) my SatNav refused to gain a signal from the skies first thing in the morning. After about an hour and having switched the car off and on again the Satnav would then find its signal ok. The only thing that I could narrow it down to was the cold temperature at engine start. I had my X5 in with several dealers where no-one was able to confirm or shed any light on the problem. Until finally, one engineer dug a report up from BMW Germany stating that on some Satnav systems when the Cabin temperature was below a certain level (approx 5C) the SatNav unit would not gain a signal! The remedy was to completly replace the SatNav system (not a stock item!) Needless to say I'm still waiting after 3 months for this to come, however, while I was waiting I was wondering if anyone else had this problem on here? Obviously not an issue for me during the summer months but with winter coming again I know it will be! A few things to confirm: I'm driving a 2004 4.4i with the Mk IV SatNav All test were carried out using original SatNav and OS DVDs Problem only occurs from cold start with cabin temp <5C Interested in anyone else with this problem or hopefully it may help you? |

So try a replacement for a few days (swap with a friend) and see if the problem is the nav unit. Otherwise, only thing it can be is the GPS antenna.

GPS Antenna was the first thing swapped out by BMW.
None of my friends have an X5 - thats why I love mine so much!
