MKIII & MKIV both monochrome!?!?
I have a 2001 E39 M5. It had a fully working MKIII unit. I recently got a MKIV unit and swapped it over last night, however the Nat Screen is now blank. I can see the back light come on when I start the car but nothing else. I know the screen is ok as when I switch over to the Traffic Master unit that comes up on the screen fine. So I have been told that the MKIV unit could be set to Monochrome so I am burning the disks I need now. However in the meantime I put the MKIII unit back in and the screen is still blank!?! Is it possible for the MKIII to revert back to monochrome after being unplugged? Or could it be something else? I did add a Tv in motion cable from yoysinyourcar.com could this have caused the issue? |

TV in motion will not affect the nav.
You really need to try the Mk3 in another vehicle. if the red LED on the Mk3 illuminates properly, and flashes before switching off 60s after ignition switch off, then nav processor is OK. Otherwise, nav is dead. |

Both Nav units power down as you would expect.
I have tried the mono to color procedure you have posted previously with the different OS disks. But this didn't make a difference. Unfortuantly i don't know anyone else who has a BMW for me to try my nav unit in! |

I have taken some pictures of both the MKIII & MKIV labels. Are you able to tell if they are Mono or not?

Those labels don't tell us. Look for a label showing BMWM01S (mono) or BMWC01S (color).

There are no labels on the devices to show either of those codes.
I have ordered an IBUS connector. Hopefully that and NavCoder will be able to resolve my issue. If not I'll have to take it to a dealer!

RESOLVED!
Ok, firstly I would like to appologise for wasting your time KiwiJochen.
Turns out when I had added the tv in motion cable i didn't seat the blue cable back into the tv unit properly. It was really bugging me that both units weren't working which made me look back at what I had changed. I then noticed the blue cable was ever so slightly higher than the white one next to it. With a little tap it fell into place and voila the screen came alive! |

Good news! I trust both nav units are now working :-)
PS: Navcoder can program your video module for TV in Motion, you don't need the additional TV-in-Motion cable. |

The MKIV is working fine.
But I think that the MKIII is knackered! Every cd I put in just spins and doesn't do anything. The Red light doesn't come on either. |
