NAV/TV Resetting All The Time

Hi

I've had my car for a couple of weeks, it's MKIII and usually when driving on the motorway the system seems to reboot and go back to the splash screen and come back again, during this time the CD/Radio still plays and I have control of volume and track selection etc but within a 1hr journey the other day it rebooted 3-4 times and the last time the screen never came back even though the music was still playing, I stopped and turn the car off and on and then after a min it came back.

Doesn't do this on every journey but I'm noticing it more over the last week.

Any suggestions? it has 3 - 1/63 firmware...

I did take the NAV CD out and gave it a rub and it hasn't rebooted since but I'm still not convinced it's resolved.

Thanks everyone!

That typically happens when the nav drive is having problems reading the map disk. As you noticed, cleaning the disk usually helps clear this up. You may even need to replace the map disk at some point.

I have had this problem for over a year its not the disk BMW told the previous owner it was the weather, a climate thing, what utter CR*P. The system drops off the IBUS at some predetermined point of its own making. I am determined to get to the bottom of it and have had several discussions on the Bimmerboard. The temperature may be a factor as when the air con gets the cab cool enough it works, but that suggests its not the MK4 in the boot. Good luck I am still hoping!!

disk

I have the same problem and it was _much_ worse with a particular CD I had. It almost disappeared when i replaced it with another disk. I suspect that it is a disk read problem whether its the disk or the CDROM reader - so I am going to ensure the laser lens is clean as the previous poster suggested.

I have a MK III and MKIV and only the MK III has given this trouble.

regards,
Seedar.
