PLEASE HELP! Navigation system fried?!?!

Last night I downloaded and burned a copy of v29.1 nav software for my 2003 BMW 540. I installed it sucessfully and all is well in my car. My dad, however, outside of my presence and despite my warnings decided to put it in his navigation system without know the procedure...

He has a 2001 740iL. It has the 16x9 nav screen and is CDROM based, so I believe it to be MKIII. From whats been communicated to me, he put it in, got freaked out when the screen went blank and took it out. Nothing has come back up on the screen since and he's pissed at me...

I told him the risks involved and that there was a special procedure which I WOULD DO if he wanted, but he did it on his own. I feel terrible about this--what can be done?

It may be recoverable. Tell him to re-insert the disk, and leave it there for while. It may reload.

I'm at his house now trying to recover it. It doesn't seem to be taking... I'm not positive I burned a non-mode1 cd, so I'm downloading version 28 and am going to be sure to burn mode 2.

I sincerely doubt that is the issue, but I'm hoping for a fix.
