MKIII Update went bad

New member in need of some help

I tried to update my mkIII and it locked up. The disk got stick and the screen went black. I pulled the unit and took it to the local radio place and they got the disk out but now my nav does not work. It powers up but will not load a disk and the radio works for about 2 miles then stops. Also the screen is still black. Anybody have an idea what I need to do?

You probably used a Mode1 disc, which crashes a Mk3. Use a proper Mode2/Form1 disc and it will restore itself.

Burn a new disc using ImgBurn, which supports Mode2/Form1

It will not load a disk since the lockup. The eject light will come on but I can not put a disk in.

I was in your exact position a week ago, thought I had killed my nav unit - but now it's working great, thanks to the tips here.

I found my MkIII was very picky about how the disk was inserted - I had to gently push it in and, if it did not grab the disk, try moving it to the left, right, up and down until the mechanism would pull it in. I forced a disk in once and had a heck of a time getting it back out - had to hold the eject key down for a LONG time (2 minutes or so).

The disk MUST be burned in Mode 2 as mentioned, otherwise you will get a message that it is starting the SW update and then nothing. The good news is that if you burn a proper disk the unit will read it and come back to life even though you think you've killed it.

Hi,

I've a 2003 Mini Cooper with MK3 GPS inside.

I've try to upgrade to v28 modified by a French guy, but the ISO was in mode1. When I've insert the disk, the GPS screen goes black and now nothing (like is dead). The CD spin up and down but noting on the screen.

I've modified the iso to Mode2/form1, but the MK3 do not bring to life.

I've let the v28 mode2 CD all the night, inside the car, and this morning I was trying to eject the CD : Impossible !!!

The only light I've got, is the Eject button, the red power button doesn't blink anymore, and the CD don't spin (???).

Is there any solutions to :
- Eject the CD
- Bring back to life the MK3 ?

Chears,
W.

I'm doing an auto-reply.

After a few test (during a few hours) the CD still stick inside the MK3. I drive back to my home and I Push the eject button : Miracle ! The drive eject the CD, I can't believe it.

I immediatel insert the V22.1 CD and the MK3 pgrade to the 6.2 firmware, Y E S. The builtin gPS is in live.

So Know I've to transform the V28 cd from mode1 to Mode2 and do a test.

W.

@bmw_performance: if your disk is still stuck, easiet way by far to remove it is using these instructions

http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-...ion-drive.html

Even if there is no disk in there now, you need to unlock the drive mechanism. First time I got a disk stuck I used a couple of butter knives to force the disk out... couldn't put a new disk in of course. Used this trick and it was fine.
