Replacing the voices - possible ?

Hi ,

I'd like to replace the voices to my own . So instead of saying turn left during navigating ... the navi would play let's say a 5sec piece of music ( this is just an example ) .

Which file I have to extract and how those vioces are written (saved) to the software (extention etc.) ?

Is it much of work ?

Hoping for an answer ,
Refugee

EDIT : I've just downloaded NavSpeak and I guess that I may change the voices there ... Anyway I still don't know by what extention should I replace words (mp3 , wav or other format made just for BMW ) ?

I think they are MP4, you should ask the NavSpeak author - he obviously knows...

I don't remember already. Just load original voice into NavSpeak, save one word to disk then look its properties in Explorer.

To be honest , I didn't hit upon an idea of saving the files Anyway , it works and to anyone interested ,voice files are .wav .

Thank you KiwiJochen , maikelnai , nomad for the advices .

One more question , because I don't wanna do the new topic ...
If I want to replace the english voices ,which database is used to speak in v29.1 software ? I mean , if I choose the gb female the database is "modern type " , but if I choose gb voice male it's written that it's an old database format ... I don't know if it has any influence ,but so far I've spotted that in the old type there are only 149 words and in the new database type there are 324 words , so I don't know which one should I edit .

Greets,
Refugee

Look at the date/time stamp of the files - the male voices are very old, because BMW stopped developing the male voice files with the Mk2 nav. Mk3 and newer only officially uses female voice.

You can use male voice with the Mk3 nav, but in some situations the correct phrase will be missing, because - as you have seen - the female voice has 324 words, and the male has 149 words.
