2 Navigation Questions 2003 M3 and 2004 530i

ok first off i am looking to update Maps on the 2003 M3 is there any easy and inexpensive way to update them. maybe torrents or something of the sort? i am not too sure.

Also what is the point in updating the OS? it currently has 4-1/12 and i am thinking about updating it but am curious about the benefits.

Also the 530i does not have navigation but does have idrive is there any way to add in the navigation?

thanks
louie

You really should update 4-1/12, that is a very old version that will probably display "T20.10" on the startup screen rather than a BMW logo. It's amazing that a dealer has not updated it, as they were supposed to! You should be able to get it updated for free by a dealer even now.

4-1/91 will give you better maps (with antialiasing) and perspective mode along with better reliability.

I agree with richard, update the OS ASAP.

This is a link (below) to v29 (4-1/91), don't bother with v30 as it has no updates over v29.

http://www.xoutpost.com/navigation-sy...available.html

Use ImgBurn @ 1x.

Once you have downloaded the file (above), unzip it (using winzip or similar) into a sub-dir on your pc.

Then use imgburn or similar (http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download) to burn a new
(blank) cd with the new downloaded firmware image.

eg:
install imgburn.
then run.
open v29.mds (from sub-dir).
select "mode write" from menu.
press write (cd image at bottom).

Burn at 1x speed, on good quaility cd.

When its finished writing your new firmware cd,
Goto the car open the drivers door,
Goto the dvd nav computer wait for the red led on the drive to go out,
Then press eject on drive,
Eject the map disc,
Switch ign to pos 1, leave door open.
Insert firmware disc into drive, follow instruction on nav screen.
Wait (approx 6 mins) till sat nav asks to eject cd and reboot.
Eject cd,
Confirm reboot.

Thats it.

Do not swich off ignition or close the door when doing the upgrade.

Once you have v29 loaded then you can have 3D perspectibe mode, to enable this, Perspective mode needs to be enabled in 2 places,

1: The hidden setup menu.
2: In the arrow map pointing menu and

Go to the menu screen select set (or settings) and hold menu button for 10 seconds, when the hidden menu appears scroll down untill the perspective mode option is selectable.

As for a new map disc, I can't really help you there, but a newer map disc would be far better than what you have.

Hope this helps
