What does the "language bracket" depend on ?

Hi,

I know the thread name is a bit weird ,but I'm gonna describe it more clearly .

The thing is my friend has just bought a car ( '04 X5 ) . He has MK4 onboard and I installed him v29 soft . He wants to have an english menu . I was a bit confused 'cause when I got into settings and then in the language menu there was only Italian , German and French . There was no english at all .To be sure that it's not fault of my v29 CD I installed him v24 ,but the same - no englsh.

I'm asking You , where is english ? How can I "put" english into his navi ?
What does the combination of languages depend on ?
My only thought it's coutry where the cars are sold ... am I right ?
How can I change , as I pretty called it , the "language bracket" ?

Greets,
Refugee

It is a function of how the vehicle is coded. You can either go to the dealer and have them recode the vehicle for USA, or you can try using NavCoder to do this yourself - http://www.xoutpost.com/navigation-sy...-released.html

Hi Attiq,

You've got a few ways to solve your problem.

1st and the easiest one is using the Navcoder. As far as I know you need to buy Navcoder (available at xoutpost) and a special wire that will allow you to connect your computer to the car

2nd way - You can also do it with a little help from your local dealer. Call 'em and they will let you know.

3rd way - the most complexed one. You need to use navtweak to replace the english language strings with the language that you've got on your nav ( for instance spanish ). You need to do the same with the voices. If you need any further information, pm me.

Best wishes

You are right.

The nav can display any 3 languages from

GB, US, DE, FR; IT, SP, NL, RU

BMW in your country decided what the standard languages for your country are. But you can ask BMW to set any 3 of the above languages you want, or do it yourself with NavCoder

Talking Change / code language to English on Mk4 Nav computer

Thanks for your reply, as it this thread has not seen much activity since last year I did not expect any responce so its great to hear from you guys!

Any way I dont mind paying for the Navcoder software as I am sure it will pay for itself quickly, but I would like to know the Navtweak option as that looks cheaper as it does not need a hardwire connection to the car?? or am I wrong. How did you sort your problem as it sounded very similar to mine? I must admit changing hex values and correcting the crc makes it like alot of work?? do you have the cd that you used to change your language?

I look forward to your reply

thanks again for listening

Or you can build your own interface easily from the circuit posted on this forum. It's not as fancy as the Resler and doesn't work with USB but it does the job.
