BMW logo on nav startup..how?

hey,

i have a mkiii navi. just upgrade to a full screen. i've noticed on most X5s that when you open the door =BMW= pops up on the nav. mine simply puts only the date and time. how can i get this startup?

is it a setting?software upgrade? or hardware upgrade?

thanks,

mike

That comes from updating to a newer OS. See http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=59 for more info on how to tell what version you are currently on. The latest for the MkIII is 3-1/63, which requires a V22 or higher disk.

The update and the key can be download from links on the front page here, or from bimmernav.com

It takes about 5 minutes to do the upgrade. You will also need clonecd (shareware) to burn the images.

your best option is to have the dealer do the upgrade. That way if something goes wrong then they are responsible for correcting the problem. However, many dealers are clueless about this, and will likely not have the KeyCD that you will need if your current OS is lower then V18.2.

There are sources to download the files you need to create your own update disk, should you choose to try it on your own (I've done it dozens of times, it's not that difficult). See http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=88

i'm fairly good with technology, but i dont want to message up a $1,000 navigation computer just for software upgrades.

basically im asking, if i make a mistake will it be fixable?

thanks,

mike

ps. i think i have version 16 or 17 (i forget which) on an mkiii. i know i needed the key to do the upgrade. can i just jump from where im at to version 25?

You might get some tips on do's & don't for the upgrade through my previous experiences in this thread:

If you've got anything other than an MkIV DVD based Nav, you'll want to download v23 instead. v25 is only for the MkIV. UCrew should be along shortly to figure out the dead link issue.

It's not a link problem. Rather, it looks like MegaUpload.com either killed it or is having problems. The file is pretty large and would kill our monthly bandwidth if I was to host it publically. A PM has been sent to let sdogg888 know where to get it
