It depends....for E53 if it is factory-fitted then most-likely no, as it was a costed option (SA620) - if bluetooth is retro-fitted then you should have voice dialling. If you have the voice emblem on your steering wheel, hold it down for about 2 secs - if it beeps you have it - if not you don't. You can get it switched on using Navcoder though - search for NAvcoder to find out how.
For E70 - the only way to get it is to specify SA620 unfortunately.

Nope.....no beeping.
Is there an add on, to achieve this.....or do I need to upgrade to the latest generation ULF. |

either use Navcoder or get a ULF mit SES off ebay such as this
http://cgi.ebay.de/BMW-Bluetooth-ULF...QQcmdZViewItem the ones without the Mit SES do not have the voice dialling activated. Mit SES is printed on the white sticker.

If you have a ULF (Bluetooth) > 2nd GEN (2004) installed and VOICE activation is not working, you can use Navcoder (as previously suggested) OR visit a dealer and ask them to activate it, it's a 15 minutes job.
You can check for your ULF version in the LEFT side of the trunk. Details on ULF versions can be found http://www.bimmernav.com/ulfchanges.html |

So, NavCoder and an i-bus interface had it activated in 30 seconds flat. Demonstrated to the Service Manager who just shrugged and said it was an unofficial modification FFS! I'd be interested though to hear of anyone else who has actually got their dealer to code the option officially via Retrofit coding, and whether that actually then shows the vehicle as having SA620. |

ACTIVATING VOICE after ULF retrofit
Quote:
Removed old TCU and phone from armrest, replaced the new cradle (in armrest) and ULF (in left side of trunk), followed pairing instructions and everything worked immediately EXCEPT for the VOICE ACTIVATION and VOICE INSTRUCTIONS (eg DIAL NUMBER, etc). Had to pay a visit to the local dealer in Greece, told him about my personal retrofit and asked him to connect his computer to the car and ACTIVATE the VOICE option in the ULF, which he did (with me pointing him the right checkbox on the screen of his diagnosis PC). I was charged 20 EUROs for the visit. I'm not sure about the SA620 option... |

Asot.....When you say "second generation" you wouldn't happen to know which version that would be.

So then, with a 3rd GEN ULF installed, it's just a matter of programming, for the VOICE to work!
