If you can se Navigation menu on your nav screen and you updated the software in MK3 then check wires or something becouse it should work.
Not VALID INFO!!!
The primary video source is mk3, but the bordmonitor gets the picture via TV module. You can check it, disconnect the TV modul, and there will be no picture on bordmonitor. I have different TV modules, and if I connect a 4:3 TV module into my 2002 E39 (original 16:9 system), there will be 4:3 main menu, navigation, telephone etc.
Back to the original problem: concepo has to buy a 16:9 TV-module, this is the solution.

Ok, thanks for the answers so far

I have just talked to a guy here in Denmark, who has a TV tuner.
He thinks it is a 16:9 but he is not sure.

This is what is written on the TV Tuner / Radiomodule box:
BMW.6 911 221-
037138052 044109 00
LEAR HW:04/SW:11/AI:01 04831 .

Can someone tell me if its for 16:9 or the old model,

Thanks ,
Thomas

Yes, your TV module supports the 16:9 display.

Sure if you say so...
All i know is that the MK is primary video source and TV secondary. My 330 Cab had no tv module and everything worked fine.
So what you mean is if you have tv module it controls menu navi and so on since he has everything in 4:3, so he could basicly remove or dissconenct tv module and he should get 16:9?

If you don't have TV function in your car, the mk3 gives the picture directly to the bordmonitor. Even an mk2 can give fullscreen picture on a 16:9 monitor.
If you have tv function, without TV module there will be no picture on the bordmonitor, because the wiring is serial. mk3->TV module->Bordmonitor.
So in this case the TV module determines displayed picture.

Without navigation
If no navigation system is installed in the on-board-monitor system, the video module builds up the graphics for the menus (user interface).
With navigation
If a navigation system is a component part of the on-board monitor system, the user interface is set up by the navigation computer

So, if there is a navi - video signal is developed by NAVI!!!

Yes but the video signal developed by navi is going through the TV module!!!!!!!!!!! So if the TV modul is 4:3, the output will be 4:3, even in case of the main menu!!!!
If you don't believe me, try a 16:9 system with a 4:3 TV module.

But I do have, so here is some pic.
Original 16:9 system with original 16:9 TV module (SW:11)

Original 16:9 system with 4:3 TV module (SW:08)

you can see, that it is an mk4 with perspective view, but the old TV module (SW:08) gives 4:3 pic.

Looks like you tested it out on the E39. Now I have a '97 540 with both Navi and TV, does than mean that If I get both 16:9 screen and the MK3/MK4 units, the pic will still look jacked up because my original TV unit is 4:3? Also, what benefits do I get if I just upgrade my MK1 to MK3? I mean they cost around $200 used, does it worth it? And can I even do that with existing wiring, since I've been on forums for a while now and have yet to come across the MK1 unit. Any info's appreciated, thanks folks =)
