Monitor or brain broken ?

Hello,
I buy x5 12/2002 USA E53 16:9 MK IV.
I have the problem with the right roll key (I don't know how it right say in English). Whan I push it, it work and i can select. But whan i roll it to right or to left, it work strange.
For example:
1. I push the menu button
2. I see the screen with: On-b comp , GPS-Nav, Setting, Monit. off, Energency, code...
3. Whan i roll this roll to left it change sometimems 2, sometimes 3 menu options, but not all arround.

I download the v.30 firware os-9000 for my mk iv, do update but it didn't solve my problem.

What is broken roll bar or brain ?

The switch is faulty, generally dirty contacts inside the rotary control

BMW would recommend replacing the whole display unit

Sometimes contact cleaner sprayed inside the switch will clean it and make it work well. For a while...
