Question Mk4 Navigation won't Boot (blank screen)

So I have a new problem now with the GPS computer. Earlier on I smacked into a particularly deep pot-hole in the road and just at that time the screen went blank again.
It looks like its trying to boot and after a while it gives up and I get the 'default' car menu display instead (no GPS options).
The strange thing is, if I hold down the eject button. although the disc doesn't eject it instead boots up just fine and the map comes up. If I let go, the light on the DVD unit goes off and it goes blank again.
I read somewhere on some other forum somebody having this exact same problem, causing them to jam their eject button with a cocktail stick or something but I can't for the life of me find that post.

Has anyone else any idea why holding eject would allow it to boot and releasing it would cause the GPS to go off again?

Missing a 12v ?

Excellent - I'm glad somebody recognised this problem. When you say I'm missing one of the 12v I presume you mean there are more than one power feeds?

Any idea how I go about diagnosing?

maybe i'm not complety right. Because mk4 is vdo based computer.
And vdo had that problem with touching the eject button.

So i don't know where you have look for your 2 times 12V.

But maybe you first can check your fuses from the ignition.
or maybe your radio must give that 12V i don't know.

But it's a first step to help......
So maybe someone else could help you now or can look at his unit......
So hopefully you can see the difference!

good luck!
