No illumination = no power. Hardware fault, not software.

A crashed Mk3 will still illuminate the Eject key. Are you SURE it doesn't illuminate?
it lights up with ibus activity, so the ign must be turned on to generate ibus activity.

Anyway, try and recover the Mk3 with a proper, error free, Mode2/Form1 CD. Hopefully it will recover.

The eject button still illuminates, the power light doesn't come on.

Good, your Mk3 is showing signs of crashed OS during SW load. Mostly this is a recoverable state.

The power light is actually an 'OS activity' light, ie: it lights up when the CPU is running and the OS is working.

The way to recover the crashed Mk3 is to insert a known good standard OS disc (do not use a modified one).

The disc MUST MUST MUST be Mode2/Form1. Check before you use!
If you don't know how to check, say so!

Also, check the disc that caused it to crash: if it is Mode1, then you know for sure the Mode1 disc caused the Mk3 to crash, meaning the Mode2/Form1 disc should recover the Mk3. Thow the Mode1 disc in the bin immediately.

If the disc you used when it crashed was already a Mode2 disc, then check the quality of the disk. Maybe the disc was burnt poorly. If poor, throw away.

There is also a chance that, even if you did everything right, the Mk3 still crashed beyond recovery. If this is the case, the only solution is to send it to the VDO factory and get them to reflash it using factory tools.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I will check my ImgBurn again for mode settings but I still do not know where to look. I will burn a standard version of RR software and try to load it again.

ImgBurn: on the Write screen, where it shows 'Sectors' - this will state MODE1 or MODE2

Ok, I will check. Thank You. I hope it can be recovered. I will used Kodak disc last time, I will try on Sony disc this time. So if it does recover, how can I go back and edit splash screen?

Change splash screen in the same manner as for the Mk4. The critical step is to make sure the image started as, and stays, a Mode2/Form1 image.

I found it, it does say Mode1. How do I get it into Mode 2?

Don't think you can. I tried once and killed the Mk3 permanenetly.

You need to start with a Mode2 image in the first place.

I start with Mode 2 image, edit it with UltraISO and save new file. The new file saves as Mode 1.

Is there a way to keep it in Mode 2? I just burned a copy of the original MK3 RR software in Mode 2 but it is not edited with the BMW splash screen. I will go try to recover it now.
