Question nav in 645 doesn't allow name entry for POI search?

So in my M3 I could search for POIs by entering a portion of the place's name once I had selected the deepest level in the hierarchy of type of place I was serching for, example:

RECREATION/DINING > RESTAURANTS > ALL > ENTER NAME

If I entered no name, it would just search for all restaurants within the specified search radius. Or, it would limt hte search to only those restaurants containing the letters I entered.

But curiously, on the 645 system, it doesn't let me enter the name of places. Is this due to an older iDrive system? I aready bought the latest nav DVD for 2008 direct from BMW, but I'm wonderng wheter I also need to upate the iDrive software itself?

Doesn't make sense taht the m3 would allow me to enter place names but the 645 would not.

Thanks!

you'll need to get your progman updated. it was only last year that POI input was added to that version of iDrive. I assume your iDrive background is currently brown? if so, then you definitely have an older Progman and the newer one is grey. Most dealers won't just update it for free either. Its a PITA for them to do and takes a few hours. Many times they start, something goes wrong after an hour or two, and they have to start all over again.
You maybe able to get a free flash if you get something that requires a newer progman, mine was done in my e92 after the fuel pump was replaced.

ugh. now that's annoying i actally used that feature all the time on my 2004 e46 m3. doesn't make sense that a one year-newer iDrive system on a 645 doesn't have it.

You might try getting a dealer to update the OS. I know that the 745Li systems let you search on PoI names. I am pretty sure that hte 550i system does too. Yours may just have an older OS.
