Nav Screen Blinking...HELP?

My 2001 BWM X5 had the battery jumped and now the Nav screen just blinks every few seconds and never comes on completly. The radio also now shuts off after about 30 seconds of playing. I am not sure if the screen is now bad or the nav unit. BWM dealer just wanted to replace the screen and nav computer for 3,800. What should I try before replacing these components?

FYI...I have the 4:3 screen, not the 16:9.

Try chargigng or replacing your battery if old one is bad.
Disconnect batterry for a while 30 min or so
reconect if you dont get it back, then the MK III unit (your nav computer) is most likely dead, and you will nead a new one. (check eaven for the red light on the unit is it on?)

Battery was replaced by BMW dealer. The red light on eject button on the nav unit blinks red (i do not have a nav cd in the computer). The radio plays for about 30 seconds (no radio screen comes on) and then shuts off. If you turn if off and then on again, it plays for another 30 seconds. The red triangle light for the radio comes on, but not the red triangle light for the monitor/nav knob. Which would I replace first and is there a place to buy a used one?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Did you disconnect the battery yet? If not, disconnect it for about 5 minutes and then reconnect it. The vehicle will go out and try to rediscover all of the devices attached to the ibus and hopefully all will be back to normal.
