Will it work? Has anyone tried this?

Yes, I have tried it and it works perfectly. You can even do the MKIV's split screen view on the 4:3 screen.

Arrival Time

Does any using the mkiv with 4:3 have a problem with arrival time being displayed?

If arrival time does not display, then the nav is incorrectly coded for your car.

Either you have an X5, and the nav came from a non-X5 car
Or vice versa.

Two ways to fix this:

1. Visit your friendly dealer and ask him to run the retrofit coding for the nav in your car. You will get all the standard coding valid for your country

2. Use my NavCoder program. You can adjust all coding yourself, and select any 3 languages yourself.

Either method will fix your problem

p.s. - nothing had been coded

I never thought about it being a coding issue.

Thanks for the info
