Will this simply be a software upgrade that can be applied to any DVD BMW system?

Assuming it's like prior updates, then yes.

Judging from the pictures (and from my flaky translation) I think the scrolling has been improved as well. It looks like the vehicle icon in those images (in 'direction of travel' orientation) is fixed in the middle of the map too - which is a nice improvement. I never liked the way it travelled to the edge of the screen before refreshing.

That is definitely easier on the eyes. Eagerly awaiting v26...

Paul,
What version are you currently on? Mine has an option to keep it centered already (which is my preference as well).

v25 - downloaded it from here.

I've never seen an option for that. The only view styles I have are:
- North orientated (vehicle icon in the centre, map scrolls)
- Direction of Travel (vehicle icon moves, map static except during 'redraws')

Are you sure there is an option when using 'direction of travel' as the orientation which forces the car icon to stay in the centre? I can't find one.

Not to worry... hopefully v26 should fix that!

I believe that with mine, when I have Direction of Travel selected and I am at a "zoomed in" setting that it will scroll as you describe. However, when I am zoomed further out (I typically have mine set at the 2.5 mile scale) it keeps the vehicle centered in the map and the map moves around it.

Yes, this happens with mine - however when you zoom out beyond a certain scale it is actually changing to 'North Orientated' view rather than the 'Direction of Travel' view - that explains the change.

Here's a couple of pictures of the V26 screens from Andy in the UK

Centered

I would love it to stay centered when zoomed in as often I find the car is getting so close to the border that I can't see the next turn when its only 200-300m away... Yes you can zoom out but then you lose detail.

Would be good if that was addressed, and my pet gripe of not using the GPS time to set the clock by

Not yet.

The dealers have it here in Australia but they won't let me do the upgrade myself - they want to do it personally, unfortunately.

I am hoping to have my car upgraded tomorrow. If I can convince them to let me do it myself I'll also make a CD image with my laptop at the same time - I'll then upload it here.

Unfortunately I'm not 'friendly' with any dealers/service department staff here.

I'll keep you posted.
