Sat Nav Not starting
I guess its done this 4 or 5 times over 12 months, but twice now inside a week. Is this normal, or do I have a problem? |

Weak laser. To confirm, eject the map and leave the map out for a while. Observe how the system responds. Most likely fast and stable with no nmap disc.
Then put the disc back in. If it is still slow reading the nav disc, and sometimes crashes, then your laser is old and weak. Either replace the laser if you know how, or replace the whole mechanism (recommended). Replacing the entire mechanism is very simple: 4 x screws, 2 x plugs. That's it. It's best to do the whole mech because if the laser is weak then likely the mechanics of the mechanism are worn as well. A whole new mech makes the nav as good as new. New mechs at BMW or here. |

I wondered if it was a problem reading the disk. The car is under 3 years old, and done 20k miles, is this young for a laser to go? It's still under warrenty, but suspect I'll have to take out my intrevee & resler before I take it in. It also has a few navcoder additions! I'll try another disk in it to see if thats the same. The problem at the moment is it's quite intermittant.

Make sure of course that the map disc is clean and unscratched.
