Need help with Mini Nav... its off 90 degrees

Let me give you a snyopsis of whats going on. The NAV has me traveling North when I am traveling East. I have updated the NAV software to v31, and still no luck. It does look better than what I was running though. Can someone walk me through how to reconfig the compass? I was refered to this forum from NorthAmericaMotoring.com. To see the thread and all that I have tried this far, please click here

What does the Service Menu show you?

I would guess that your GPS antenna or receiver is defect. But you can confirm this in the service menu

You should check 4 key items:

GPS signal
What S/N values do you get and what is your GPS status?
You want a 4D fix. Of course, you must be outside...

Dead Reckoning Signals
Does your Gyro value properly centre on 2500 +/-100 and go up when turning right, down when left, and back to 2500 when straight ahead?

Does your wheel sensor show 0 when standing still, a positive value relative to speed going forward, and a negative value going backwards?

Does your direction show forwards in all gears other than reverse, and Backwards in reverse gear?

My guess is that Dead Reckoning is fine but GPS signal is faulty.

PS: compass calibration is performed automatically at every power-off and vehicle shutdown.

Thanks. Here is what it says

GPS status: reciever error
GPS Signal: no reading... lat, long, and alt are all 0's.
S/N values: 0

Gyro and sensors all look good.

now what should I do?

Faulty GPS antenna. Replace GPS antenna.

It is located under the dashboard just by the front windscreen

PS: make sure you haven't got any metal trays lying on the dash, obscuring the signal!!

Thanks for the help. I checked out the thread, and I would like to check the trimble module, but I dont know where to look. I have a mini, and it is not in the same location as described in the thread. More research.

My suggestion would be to visit your local Mini dealer and ask questions.
You might be surprised at the help you can get.

The "Trimble module" is the GPS receiver. On your car, this is a compoponent integrated inside the actualy navigation computer.

Unlikely for this to fail, I believe the problem is the antenna, not the receiver.

The antenna is cheap and easy to replace. Start there.
