Occasional black splash screen?

I have V31 loaded with a simple custom splash screen, 400x234x8 gif. This splash screen has worked for a long time with other versions. But recently I noticed that a couple of times when I've unlocked the car after the day at work, there is no splash screen. No flickering, no nothing. It's like there's a black splash screen. Then the accept screen immediately comes up when I turn on the ignition. It hasn't been very hot lately, so it doesn't seem like heat is the issue. Could there be some reason that the computer is occasionally rejecting the splash screen file?

Note that this is the first time I've used navtweak, which is a very nice application. gifextractor was the old tool, and I don't think this ever occurred with it, but I don't know if that's any connection to this problem.

Load a standard BMW OS and use that for a while. See what happens. Take notes and compare before and after.
