MK4 splash screen Range Rover

I am new but searched the lot here. No info and no Range Rover splash screen was found, while I use the same MK4 NAV system as the x5. Can anyone help? What is the easy method for updating the splash screen (now BMW logo and needs to be Land Rover or Range Rover). Thanks.

Welcome to the forum,

You need some software; these are just an example others work just as well;
UltraIso
Imgburn

You need navtweak.

I use UltraIso, it will let you extract the navboot file from the v31.mds file and save back (the new image) to a v31.iso file (ready for cd burning)

Install UltraIso,
Then run UtraIso
File, Open "v31.mds"
Navigate to "V-2/RR/0101/BMWC01S/app_sw" in the now open image.
Drag and drop the navboot out of the image onto desktop (or sub-dir)

Install navtweak (including the GDK librarys),

Open navtweak
File, Open "navboot"
Select the 2nd tab (images)

1: For sky select romicons #8 and right click replace, (with your choice)
2: For splash seletct rombitmaps #14 and right click replace, (with your choice)
3: For 3d icons rombitmaps select rombitmaps (you get the idea)

Then save the navboot (keep a copy of the original safe).

Then drag and drop into the open UltraIso session (back where you found it, "V-2/RR/0101/BMWC01S/app_sw").

The nav unit doesn't allow it to "update" with the same software as already installed. So you have to fake the SoftwareVersion.
do the following: also extract the 2 .tbl files from the directoy:
<drive>:\V_2\RR\0101\BMWC01S
Open it in an HEX editor (like Freeware, PSPad http://www.pspad.com/en/)

In the first line you find: 30 39 31 30 This means: 0800 So: Software-Version 08.00
Just edit the last 30 to 31 and you nav unit will think it's a new Software Version and you can update your v31without prior downgrade to V29

The next time you update, you can edit it back to 0800 then 0801 again...

Save the UltraIso image as v31.iso, then burn a cd ad 1x speed.

Thats it.

Or

Post up the pic you want and I'll do you one, what version are you running now?

HTH

Thanks. Sounds very complicated. As I use version V31 maybe I can directly upgrade to version V32 (which is released not long ago). Then we can skip a complicated part. I can make the splash screen. What format, resolution and file type should it be. It would really help if you could create a file that I could burn 1xspeed on a CD+ or -? or a DVD? And enter in the player of the car so that the MK4 gets updated to v32 with Landrover Splash screen. Could you help?

V32 is identical to V31 for the Mk4 nav. Both V31 and V32 contain 4-1/100 Mk4 software

Sure, no problem

If you are at v31 already then v32 will not force an update (as it is the same release), I can make it do it though.

Make the picture a .GIF file size, w=400, H=234. with 256 colours.

I will then upload the image as a zipped file and you can download and unzip it then burn at the slowest rates speed for the CD.

v32 necessary

The v32 Version is only required wehn you will use a copy of 2008-2 on a Double-Layer DVD... The org. Version runs at v31.

One more time...... as Kiwi already said: in v31 and v32 is the same SW version for MKIV - 4-1/00 (means 4-1/100).... There is no difference between this versions for all navi units except NAVI03!!!

The function of reading Dual Layer disks is enabled in v31 (again means in 4-1/00).... With v31 DL DVD disks could be read perfectly!!!

Here you go

V31, Update OEM with custom Range Rover splash screen

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X2MT6QR0

procedure

Select the write speed as x1 (or the slowest rated speed of the blank cd) and then burn on a good quaility cd.

When its finished writing your new firmware cd,
Goto the car open the drivers door,
Goto the nav computer and press eject on drive,
Eject the map disc,
Switch ign to pos 1, leave door open.
Insert firmware disc into drive, follow instruction on nav screen.
Wait (approx 6 mins) till sat nav asks to eject cd and reboot.
Eject cd,
Confirm reboot.

Do not switch off ignition or close the door when doing the upgrade.
