Is this navigation unit mk1 or mk2?

Hey guys, my old man just bought a 750 1998, and he has this navigation unit in it. Is it safe to upgrade this unit? Cant tell if its mk1 or mk2

Would my CD navigation that used on my old Mk3 work with this?

Also, would i need V17 upgrade or CD Key?

Although they look alike, you can tell the MKI from the MKII by the voice driver. The MKI has a male voice and MKII has a female voice. On the back of the unit, if there are two connections that are blue and purple then the unit is a MkII. If the connections are brown and black then the unt is a MkI.

The Map CD should work.

There is no KeyCD for a Mk1 or Mk2

V17 will take a Mk1 to revision 1-1/72 and a Mk2 to revision 2-1/60.

V24.1 or higher will take a Mk1 to revision 1-1/80 and a Mk2 to revision 2-1/81. Those are the latest available updates for those older units.

Xkalibar - Are you planning to upgrade your Dad's nav to Mk III/Mk IV ?

If you feel like upgrading it match the MK III in yours then I have one here (for sale) after fitting a Mk IV unit (bought from eBay) to my 2002 X5.
