Upgrading from MkIII to DVD Mk IV problem

Just bought a MkIV DvD drive to replace my MKIII CD Drive. It was easy to install just swapped the plug over, but no navigation option comes up on the screen. I have the latest 2005-2 DVD but doesn't read it, I have tried other dvds but no luck. Is there a certain procedure for installing the dvd??

What's the part number for the MkIV? Are you sure it's good?

It's a simple plug-n-play swap, so if the nav system isn't coming up then you either have a bad nav drive or an incompatible nav drive. Keep in mind that the 3 series has a version of the MkIV that works with a much smaller monochrome screen, and it is not compatible with vehicles with the color 16:9 screen.

Even if he had the wrong DVD it would still have a working display that would tell you to insert the DVD. Plus, he would be able to see all the other MENU items (like the On Board Computer, Settings, etc.)

DVD Part Number

DVD Part Number: 6590 6920 182

All other menus do show up on the screen but no Navigation option.

The drive is secondhand, the previous owner says it was working before he sent it to me.

Do you have a video module? If so, then it's possible the vehicle isn't recognizing the nav drive and is defaulting to the video module to provide the menu options (which would not include a nav drive)

Hmmmm, I've never seen a situation where the Menu doesn't show "Navigation" as an option except for when it's the video module driving the display. Obviously since you don't have a video module, that's not the case here. I'm at a loss on this one.

If you are anywhere near the Detroit area, I'd be willing to try frogging nav units (mine to yours and yours to mine) to help isolate the trouble.

Thanks for the offer but unfortunately I live in the UK. Had a good play with the unit today and I think I could have a simple problem on a loose connection, booked into an auto electrician tomorrow.
Thanks once again for all your help.
