Question POI with sound notification

I've found a way how to implement it in Mk4 systems. Modified software will query map database for POI around car location with regular time intervals. If one or more POI of specified type found, system will emit voice message.

Arguments for and against:
  • Alert POI will be stored directly in carindb database
  • Alert POI will be always visible (instead of city centers)
  • Map query interval can exceed 3 seconds during map scale change
  • It does not matter what road you're driving then approaching alert POI
Is this feature really necessary ?

I need to know it before writing POI converter.

I have a POI converter that is an excel sheet that i made

You enter POI data in Excell sheet - all info, lat/long, name, address, description, anything - in fields that you want, so you can make it searchable with a HTM search file.

Then click a button an a POI file (IDX and ASC) is created in the right format

NOMAD, it will be very useful for speed cameras alerting! I think that all points in your list are acceptable! AFAK nobody has POI converter, which is able to modify POI DIRECTLY IN carindb database. Well, if you have time for this work - I say thank you in advance! Just do it! If you need any tests for that - let me know (I have working MK4 "on table" for tests).

Just a few questions, if I may.

1: Does this mean that you can have different POI icons for each POI type?
2: Can the voice file be different for each POI?
3: Do you need to use navspeak to add a modded voice file.
4: Will this effect the postcode search routing (AFAIK, when you only have a partial postcode, you get directied to the "city centre" bulls eye?).

Thanks for the work you have put in already, I'll be happy to help if I can (testing wise).

1. No. One of bulit-in POI type will be used as Alert POI. I want to replace 'Military Base' type (never saw it on maps). But it's possible to replace more than one type.
2. I planned to use only one type, so only one voice message needed.
3. You can do it with NavSpeak for a while, but I'm thinking about all-in-one program to patch software, change icon, voice and manage POI.
4. Bulls eyes will be keept in the database, but will be invisible.
