navigation issues

I have ran across an odd issue with my navigation system in a 2005 4.4i X5. my navigation screen comes up as blank on cold mornings(under 30 degF). After it appears to warm up, the navigation seems to function as normal. The odd part is the radio, ipod adapter and everything else seems normal, just the screen is black.

I am at a loss on what to check. Even the accept screen doe not appear, but the screen seems to be getting power as it does turn a blak color instead of the off color.

Replace the display, that's what will be faulty

Did dark screen fix work (navi dark cold weather radio works) replace screen DIY?

Hi guys, I have this issue too and was curious if replacing display did in fact (and is in fact) the solution to the problem and if it's a DIY fix...thanks.

(my post on e46 fanatics) Just bought a 2003 330CiC with all the toys, and the navigation is a little strangely behaved. It can take between 15 and about 40 minutes to start up when the weather is below 50 degrees (f). The blank screen flickers a bit, but displays nothing. Radio works fine and unit is responsive to button selections. With no warning, Navi starts up, displays BMW splash screen (OEM s/w and navigation map discs), displays "accept" message and then works as if nothing was amiss. Took a look in the trunk, and there is no power/pilot light when the blank / flickering screen is seen. Dealer flashed with some sw update but no effect. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance. Ken.

Do a search on my posts related to water damage.

Sounds similar to a problem one forum member described earlier this year.

I get this issue the odd time, and I thought it was battery related. Eitherway I forced a "reboot" of the system by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then reconnecting it. Its always managed to bring it back to life, so I suspect it might be a fuse issue.
