replacing my navigation with after market

The AM dial on my radio went out last week. Today, the dealer told me the radio was bad and that it would cost $700 to replace it. (not to mention the $190 I paid for the diagnosis)

My thought was for that money, i might as well go after market and get a better nav, DVD player, CD player, back up camera and ipod controller.
Anyone do this on their car?

You will loose lots of functionality and integration if you go aftermarket.

Radio performance will drop as no aftermarket radio can control the 1xAM and 3xFM antennas that your BMW has.

Get a 2nd hand radio from eBay - they are much cheaper than new.

You may also be able to upgrade to a CD player or the Professional RDS radio (the best)= if you find the right model on eBay.
