MkIII Nipple Sheered Off. Where To Go Now?

A buddy of mine got an MkIII to upgrade his MkI and we were working on it Saturday and Monday and I left Monday with him putting everything back together and he acidentally put the wrong cable in that nipple and when he was pushing it back in, put a torque on the unit and it sheered off of there. He emailed me pictures tonight. I have no idea what cord he was trying to put in there.

I was confused what to do. That nipple will detatch but how do you get another one? Will he need to look for a broken MkIII and try and get it that way?

I feel bad for him since he had it working fine and even updated the software to the newer look.

Mk3s don't have grease nipples :-)

Do you mean the GPS antenna connector? Gold colour, sticks out on rear of the Mk3 nav computer.
If so, it is a PCB-mount right-angle SMB connector. They can be hard to find, and you need electronics experience to replace the connector.

But the connector is mounted to the GPS receiver module inside the Mk3 nav, and you can readily replace the GPS receiver without any special tools or knowledge.

Just be gentle when replacing it, and don't use large tools or apply 20nm of torque to anything

I bought one on ebay cheap and shipped it to a guy in Scotland. It was a place in Calif.

Thank you for the help gentlemen. I went over to my friends on Saturday to check it out.
He did have the correct connection plugged in the trimble unit (nipple) but it was snagged on the AMP and we ended up taking everything back out to get it free so there would be room for us to use it.

I had him hold it in place while I checked the service menu and when it was in contact with the trimble I was showing one sattelite and a position known message and when he removed it the sattelite count went to zero and the position was now unknown.

I think for now we are going to try what we can to get that antenna connection to stay in place but it may prove difficult and futile in the end since it will be hard to keep that in contact without holding it from the back.

You won't get anywhere with a broken connector. Replace it, it's the only answer.
