Question about new Nav CD

I have a 2001 X5 with a Mark 3 system running 3-1/31 version software. My CD disc is out of date and I am on the prowl for a new one. I've looked at the threads regarding updating the operating system, however I think I would like to keep what I have because I want to keep the radio station/on-board computer screen, do not want to deal with a splash screen, want to keep the option of inputting destinations while the car is moving, and lastly, don't want to kill my system or pull my hair out like many on the board have done while attempting to upgrade.

Are there any issues in running a new Navteq discin my unit? Do the new discs only work with updated systems? If so, I think I'll just live with a seven year-old disc......

TIA

Hi, upgrading the OS is really no great issue as long as the battery voltage is good and the OS disc is good.

3-1/63 is much much better than the older versions, and has a much easier to use interface

The benefit of a newer map CD will depend on the amount of road changes in your area. I don't know what maps discs cover San Diego so cannot say what the latest disc is, but it is likely to work with your nav.
