Euro Nav 2007.1 needed?
from Manchester UK. In need of some help please. I've been reading for a couple of weeks and have been blown away by all your knowledge. Certainly seems the place to be for sat nav info. I currently run a MkIV with a 2002 euro high map. I have downloaded V28 and am now downloading v29.1. I have yet to update my system with either disc as I am unsure what benefits I will gain without a more recent map? Other than my dealer can anyone point me in the right direction to acquire the latest map if this will be what I ned to make the most of the new firmware please? Many thanks in advance for any help guys . |

You can pick up ORIGINAL copies of the latest map disk on ebay - just don't buy a copy as they aren't at all reliable. No really, don't! It may be cheaper but you probably won't be happy with it.
Dealer charges over £200 for one - and they have a habit of trying to get rid of their excess stock of the previous release before they will sell the latest release. You can pick one up on ebay for £70 to £130 - I bought one for £55+p&p - used original 2007-1 |

Thanks for the reply and the advice, I'll check out ebay then and see if I can pick up a reasonably priced disc.
So is there any advantage to upgrading my firmware prior to the new map disc? |

There's always an advantage, though some updates may be internal fixes only. I am always a bit cautious about updating immediately, and usually wait until all the issues have been ironed out; I am running V.28 and 2007-1 Europa High DVD.
You need to be aware though that from V.27, there was a 'bug' introduced whereby in the RH description pane (the one that tells you where you are), you no longer get villages, suburbs etc detailed. - all you get is the closest major postal town. Annoys the hell out of me, and BMW have confirmed it will be in the next update (which should be V.29) but it looks like it isn't! |

Hello guys
New to all this but just went from v.20 to v.31. Decided that the loss of "villages and suburbs" was worth all the other functions. I think it is but have a bit of remorse and fear I'll end up annoyed like you trapdoor. So, is there a way of tweeking the software to get this info back? What about that hacked v.26, are the files still around and what might I lose by downgrading (if it's even possible)? Cheers Greg |

Other than your dealer there's always http://www.navteq.com/
Yeah I know this is the most expensive route but it's also the safest route. Trapdoor has good advice but with so many ripoff artist it's hard to know what your getting. Regards Quote:
