wheres the best way to buy a mk4 brain

I'm tired of messing around with the mk3 in my 2002 3-series.

I'm in the market to upgrade to the mk4. I see them on ebay with a pretty big range in prices, conditions,etc. Are there other places to source them? What's it look like in terms of reliability of these used, or "like new" parts?

eBay for the best price, or www.bimmernav.com for known quality and support.

Shop carefully on eBay, and you can get one for $750 or better. Just make sure that it is a true MKIV and not a nav computer from an E65/E66 that is incorrectly called a MKIV. There is a good nav computer buyer's guide on the Bimmerboard Nav forum.

They are often £250-£300 on e-bay in the UK, $350-$420, must be an oportunity there somewhere ...

Are the ones in the e46fanatics just their classified? How reliable would you consider those parts? It's not a small sum of money, and with no refunds, that's a lot of money at stake. What tips would you guys suggest on a good transaction?

I bought several items from there with no problems. That included an MKIII. PayPal is the safest way. If the seller did not send you the item you can file a claim. If he did not give a proof of shipment then PayPal will refund you. You can also arrange for pickup if the seller is near you.
