Question Route stays on map and no suburb information

Hello all

I recently updated my 2004 mkiv with v.32 o/s and the 2009-1 high maps. there are a couple of things that I can't seem to find a solution to so any advice welcome.

1. When I tell the Nav to stop guiding, the system used to stop showing a route on the map and if I just selected 'map' from the navi menu whilst not guiding, I would see a full screen map showing my current location. This was the case even when the settings in the 'set' screen were on split. Now, instead, even though the system stops directing me, the white highlighted route stays on the map view and it also remains split screen (the only way to get the full screen is to change the settings in 'set' menu which is more of a PITA) Any Ideas?

2. The other issue is the local suburbs / village information that no longer shows on the rhs since updating the o/s (I was on v.20 before!) From searching this board there doesn't seem to be a fix for this. Is there a way to hack the O/S so it will show this information. It is obviously available on the map discs and the unit can show it so it must be theoretically possible (but beyond my capability) Perhaps I should roll back to an earlier o/s, but might this give me issue running the latest Maps?

Well, lots of questions. Cheers
Greg

BMW confirmed this to be a bug after my dealer logged a PUMA case back in 2006!! They said they were going to implement a fix but never did. For some reason it doesn't seem to bother many people and I reckon that because so few people complained to BMW/their dealer that they thought it wasn't worth their while fixing it.

I have been back to my dealer on this several times and they claim BMW have closed the PUMA case so in their view it's been fixed or rejected

This is one thing about my BMW Nav that I absolutely hate, that with the latest software it will only tell you 'roughly' where you are, and if you are somewhere you don't know (like the time you really need your Nav system or if you break down), you have no way of telling someone accurately where you are, other than giving them the Lat/Long co-ords.

IIRC, V26 was the last version that had the correct location information, and there was a hacked V26 which had the 3D Perspective view, but you will loose the ability to enter postcodes with that I believe. Plus there were issues with satellite aquisition and low level stuff that was fixed in V27.

The Mk4 Nav is pretty much 'end-of-life' now and there haven't been any updates for it in the past two update CD's. Very shoddy, but that's BMW for you.

Hi Trapdoor

Thanks for the reply. I agree that is pretty shoddy and typically arrogant. Is there anyone around with the skills to delve into the o/s at the level required to re-write this function? I'm with you, it's v. annoying not having the display show where you are. I'm almost tempted to go back to v.20 !
