Which DVD?

I'd like to backup my Navteq DVD just in case it gets scratched - which type (DVD-R/DVD+R) and Brand is best to use? Thanks.

1. Verbatim discs from Singapore (it says on the packaging where they are made).
2. DVD+R. Burn at a low speed. Exit all programs that you can and don't do anything while burning.

"Workable" backup copy?

If "backed-up" properly, can this backup be used in my other BMW Nav equipped vehicle with an older version. I have a copy of the latest 2008-2009 Navteq Map version purchased from BMW. I assume I could make two workable/usable discs, in theory. I guess that is my question.

If both are the same hardware wise (i.e. MK IV) and software-wise (i.e. High/Professional, etc) then technically there is no reason why it wouldn't.

I have the same car as you - 2005 X5 4.4 - mine has MK IV and requires "High" map DVD. Is this what you have?

Brian, any particular software works best? i.e. Alcohol, Nero, etc?

Yes,
My 2005 X5 is the DVD "high" MK IV unit. The other car is the 2005 745Li with the same DVD unit, but different I-drive access controls. I assume it is the same. Thanks for the input. I will try to burn one and see if it will work. Worse thing that can happen is it won't load up and work.

I've read that you can use Nero, Toast, or the disk utility in Leopard. On the PC, ImgBurn (free) works justs fine. Low speed burn is important.
