Quick Navcoder Question

Hi all,

Just wondered what settings I should use in the Telematics settings section on the Navigation coding page of Navcoder ?

I have BMW assist but what happens if I tick that box or the Auto emergency call ?

Also I have no idea what a SMSC centre is or What a SMS number is.

Any pointers would be appreciated

Regards Gordon.

Forstly: read out the existing settings and write them down somewhere

BMW Assist needs to be ticked to make that function work. Otherwise, it won't appear in the menu

Auto Emergency Call initiates an emergency call under certain situations eg a crash

SMSC centre is the switching centre that the sms messages are routed through. Your mobile phone provide can give you this number

The SMS number is the number of BMW Assist. Ask BMW in your country for that number

Hi Jochen, thanks for explaining that.

What does it use the SMSC number for?

every GSM mobile phone needs to know the phone number of the SMS centre.

It's used for relaying SMS messages

Check your phone in your pocket, it'll also have an SMSC number saved in it somewhere

Hey Jochen, something on another thread popped a question into my head about Navcoder... not sure if it's been asked yet or not. Would it be possible for Navcoder (in the future) to allow one to dial numbers (like a telephone number) when in the telephone menu on the nav screen? There are already 6 numbers for presets (not sure how one would get numbers 7, 8, 9, 0 but you've certainly done the impossible already)!

The nav already has that function built in.

Really? Are you sure. Doesn't seem to work for me. How would you get to digits 7, 8, 9, and 0?

In the main telephone menu, you see a row of numbers 1...0*#<- on the top

Underneath is the menu that shows SMS, Info, Emergency, Addressbook, Top-8, LAst numbers (taken from German manual, text might be different)

So just select the number you want to dial from the row of numbers by turning and clicking the knob, then select the handset symbol to start the call.

PS: I'm assuming you have Mk4 nav with colour screen.

Yes I have MK IV, I could never get that function to work with either of my cell phones although answering calls and using hands free seems to work just fine. I'll try to play with it some more. Thanks for the reply.
