Struggling to change splash screen and sky!

Well, I'm stumped. I've been struggling to upload modded software but I keep striking out. I've read through the entire navtweak thread and I think I've tried everything.

I'm running a Mark IV Nav with V32 software. I've modded the V32 Navboot splash screen, car icons, and warning screen text using Navtweak. I've also changed the 4th bit in sw_rel.tbl using pspad to force the upload of the modded software. I've replaced these files in the iso using UltraIso. I've burned the new Iso image to a CD-ROM with no problems.

When I insert the disc into the computer, things progress normally, I get the message that software will be updated, the progress bar fills all the way up ....then I get a screen that says something about "errors encountered, please see user manual, eject disk and click ok". The nav goes to a black screen, until put the regular V32 disk in. The regular V32 disk installs normally and then system works fine.

Any thoughts on what I could be doing wrong when I create the modified V32 iso?

I recently found a copy of v27 so I tried the whole thing again by regressing to v27 and installing a modded v32. I replaced the sky and splash screen only....same "errors encountered" message.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

From what I read in this forum it would seem that size matters. Maybe your modded navboot has become too large. Even if this might not be the case I would try my mods one at a time and see which one blows everything up.

The size does matter....if not you will crash your MKIV.

Splash Screen - 400 x 234
Map Background - 500 x 92

Is the size same for MK series and NAV series

Hi

I just wondering whether the MOD for splash screen customization is use same image size 400x234 for both MK-IV and NAVI01/02/03 systems ? The screen size for NAVI series in e65/e66 seems different. Anybody with the exact screen size and splash image size for NAVI series please chime in.

I tried the mod on my e66, but the splash image didn't change. Software update went without any problem though.

Thanks

I've tried again, but changed the splash screen only. Same "Error Encountered" message.

I know that using larger sized files can cause problems, but how big is too big? I've tried a 13kb splash screen that I found in the Navtweek thread. I believe the stock "BMW" splash screen is 9kb.

It looks like others have been successful with fairly detailed color pictures so I can't see how 13kb would be too big.

I don't think the size is the problem. I use pictures that are from 15kb to 60kb and they work perfect.

It must be something else...

SUCCESS! After many attempts, I tried a different splash screen. The one I was using was a properly sized GIF of 13kb. I went to a LARGER file (44kb) and it works. Something must have been wrong with the original GIF file. Maybe it was saved as an interlaced GIF or something.

I found only in the NAV_SW/V_2/RR/0101/BMWC01S/app_sw folder a splash screen, but with the same splash screens size of 400x234.
But the splash screen in the e65/e66 is definitely larger then this size.
In the folders under PSH4 I cant open the *.fli files - maybe the splash screen for my e65 is inside there?

Could somebody help?

Thanks in advance
