2002 x5 what are the nav and tv options?

i know the 02 bmws had cd based nav which sucks. how expensive will it be to upgrade to dvd based nav? the truck i'm looking at already has the large nav screen.

also is there a way i can setup the screen to play movies and music videos off my ipod?

If it has an old type (Mk2 or Mk3) Nav, then it's pretty much just plug and play. Buy a Mk4 DVD based nav and plug in the Blue & White multiplugs and the coax for the GPS antenna.

As for playing movies, yes, but you'd need either the BMW OEM TV/video module and the wiring harness adapter or one of the 3rd party AV 'injectors' ... preferable to go with the OEM TV module which has an AV-in option and is selectable using the monitor controls.

Splash Screen is a (the) flashy startup screen that people have added to the Nav firmware instead of the ==BMW== 'logo' that appears on bootup of a stock BMW Nav system.

You can make and add your own with some ease (or difficulty, depending on your level of competence with a PC) ... has some risks though as making them too big can cause the Nav to crash/hang/reboot

so if I buy a used mkiv unit i just have to plug it in? I won't need any extra mounting hardware or wires? if so that's great news. right now i'm looking at a 2002 x5, and i can't stand the cd based nav system.

if i go with the OEM TV module is this also easy to install or would i need to pay someone? once it's installed i can just put dvd movies in and watch them?
