Then the laser may be weak, and not able to read the CD.

The Mk4 has 2 x lasers: 1 for CD, 1 for DVD

Try loading the OS from a DVD, sometimes that works.

If the DVD works, then consider replacing the laser or the mechanism, as the laser is getting old, tired and weak.
