Yes it can be done. Joe Puma successfully did this on his X5 that had the low OBC - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all...system-x5.html

eg: On-Board Computer functions come from the IKE, and a low IKE does not deliver the same data as a high IKE. You can always retrofit the high IKE at a later date. |

Sorry, what is IKE?

IKE = Integrierte Kombiinstrument Elektronik
= Instrument cluster :-) |

You mean by just changing the instrument cluster and you get full functions? What about wiring? Does it work if installed a used cluster?

Please refer to the retrofit instructions for upgrading low IKE to high IKE.
As well as the IKE, you need some extra wiring and some new sensors, but it is quite easy. Used clusters will work ONLY when properly recoded |

I just told me friend about this and I think I got him excited about this project. Anyway he was asking what extra function will he miss out if he don't upgrade to high IKE? Taking into consideration that he retrofit the SatNav.

Without high IKE you cannot set date/time, cannot use onboard computer, cannot display nav data in IKE, and more... |
