V32 question re "Perspective"

Just did the v32 upgrade and all went well. What is this 3D perspective people are talking about? I do see a "perspective" setting that is off by default and when I turned it on it made no difference. I'm using a map dvd from 2002... could that have anything to do with it?

you said you got it working - but didnt see roads. from the screen shots i guess there are no roads names in 3d perspective. How did you get it working anyway? just started?

thanks - he got it working. there's no road labels in 3d perspective though so just wondered if that was expected because of his map dvd version or if it's just expected in 3d perspective.

Yea, the lack of road labels makes the perspective very pointless to me. I don't know if the latest navigation DVD includes these labels as I'm not spending 200 for it. I'm just waiting for the navigation to crap out so I can justify buying a better in-dash system with bluetooth.

3D perspective does not include any road labels, regardless of nav DVD version. I agree it's more or less pointless.

Personally, I disagree. I found 3D view invaluable when being guided to a destination. It provided a much better perspective of the roads ahead and where you had to go, and showed a larger sized map area.

When I am being guided by the nav, the display of street names for roads that I am not interested in, was not of importance to me, but making sure I know where to turn was.

My favourite map display was 3D with split-screen showing arrows + street name on the right hand side. I found this worked very well.

+1 - The Perspective view shows a great deal more about what is ahead, and the view matches my visual expectations. Like Kiwi says, the split screen with the road and turn instructions marries up with the better perspective view to give the best usability of the nav. I use perspective exclusively, and I use the nav all the time. Having road names in perspective is a plus, but it is not critical to the use of that screen view.

It's horses for courses, but I concur with both Jochen and Brian, 3d mode gives the user a real view of where you need to go and the layout ahead, names are absolutely no use for normal day to day driving as you mostly likely "know" where you are, (tell me what I don't know, not what I do) if you are being directed then follow the map.

I use mine in 3d wide with full map (even when being directed), like Brian says names are a bonus but really necessary, and for me less is definitely more.

Even with my black Night mode screen, 3d is better.

I didn't mean to start a 3D debate. Nevertheless I'm happy you guys like it and use it. For me like I said I think it's useless. I prefer to have a full map display, not split-screen, and when using perspective there are no roads, so like I said, it's useless.
