BMW NAV
I checked realoem.com and it lists a lot of cars including E39, now theres no way this will fit an E39, I've tried and the connectors are totally different, also been searching around and thought it was BMW NAVI 02 fitted to 7 series E65,E66 but it also looks different from these units Anyone help? Thanks in advance |

After a bit more searching it would seem this unit will only fit BMW's sold in Japan Can anyone confirm?

Yup, AFAIK that's the sat nav system for Japanese market E39s only - apparently it's totally incompatible with European BMWs as it uses different connectors / functionality / protocols etc and will not play European map DVDs. In short it's useless for European E39s. RealOEM lists it for E39s but mentions it's for the Japanese market.
I actually saw this sat nav (or one exactly like it) on eBay recently and I e-mailed the seller to tell him it wouldn't work with European E39s as he'd got it listed as compatible with all E39s as well as other BMWs. He then changed his listing to basically say "check for yourself regarding compatability" and that he wouldn't accept refunds or responsibility, but made no mention of the info I'd given him about it not working in Europe and it being for for the Japanese market only. A somewhat misleading and unfair sale I thought... |

Yup, too good to be true in this case - sorry you've been caught out...
I think you'd have a valid claim though if you were to try to get your money back from the eBay seller as he knew perfectly well it wouldn't work in Euro cars after I'd told him but made no mention of that in the ad - if he won't play ball, eBay/Paypal should be sympathetic if you go through the resolution centre and force a refund. PM me if I can help more on that. Alternatively I guess, try to flog it to someone in Japan - you can sell to Japan on the UK eBay site but you'd have more success if you used the Japanese version - but it only uses Japanese script so you might need to find someone who knows Kanji first... |

These navs are fitted to E39 and X3 and X5 in JAPAN
They are worthless outside of Japan, as they use a Japanese special format map disc, and talk in Japanese. Send it back to Japan :-) |

Thanks for your help guys, don't want to go down the dispute road, he did state check before bidding no refunds etc so it is my fault, does'nt help knowing he knew it was no good but sold it anyway(hate liars)
So my options are bin it or sell to Japan, anyone know how to list on UK ebay to sell to the Japanese market? |

Yes, it's a tricky one but IMO the seller was acting dishonestly by not disclosing all the info in his sale - despite him knowing the full truth - and he's certainly not acted in the spirit of things. I reckon you'd have an excellent chance of a Paypal refund if you did go down that route. Hats off and all kudos to you though for being honest and not doing what he did by passing it on to an unsuspecting buyer. I'm with you - absolutely hate dishonesty.
Japan's definitely your best bet if you're selling it on - who knows, you may even make a profit. You can sell to Japan on ebay by using the selling options to make your item available to buyers worldwide or just in certain countries (inc Japan). The only problem is that lots of Japanese people don't speak or read English, which limits the market somewhat - they won't pick up on the listing at all. Written Japanese is in Kanji - Japanese script - and the Japanese Kanji version of ebay is at eBay Japan Export Center but you'll need to find someone who can read and write Kanji to be able to list there and make use of it... |
