yeap or just the laser, you can in some cases revert to using the CD map, as this uses a different pickup to the dvd pickup (and in most cases will still work).
Replacing the carriage took me less than 15mins, start to finish, and is like refurbishing the whole unit for cheap money. BTW that ebay item is cheap too
